About

I’ve wandered along the Dark Road a few times.  This is how I think of depression, as a dark and foggy road, the surface of the road is never smooth, and I can’t see it anyway, so I get to stumble along it.

Sometimes, though (and these times are more and more frequent) the sun comes and burns the fog away, and I can see there’s a smooth path, just over there, with friends walking along it, so I skip over to that path and walk with friends and feel happy.

Hopefully this will help someone who’s on the Dark Road too.

Other slightly cuter metaphors you may see will include Black Dog references, such as being growled at, bailed up by, and savaged by the Black Dog.  Because why have a serious, life threatening illness and take it seriously?  That’s no fun!  🙂

I also strongly encourage you, that if you’re feeling depressed, or think you may be depressed, to seek professional help – your healthcare professional, a counsellor, a trusted friend to just hold your hand so you know you’re not alone… because you’re not.  One thing I have learned is that there are many many more of us on this road than we think.  You’re not alone.
